Sing Over Me Since the early 1990s, Christians all over the world have been singing the songs of modern-day psalmist Dennis Jernigan, including You Are My All in All,Thank You, Lord!and When I Fell in Love with You.His music and ministry, sparked by his lifelong struggle with homosexuality and the healing that came through his relationship with Jesus Christ, have led him on a remarkable journey of redemption. Now he shares his inspiring story so that all may have a deeper understanding of Gods love. This is a film about hope, identity, and the transformative power of the Gospel. By telling his story, Jernigan puts forth an example of what God can do in the lives of those who put their trust in Him.
The Fanny Crosby Story This is the amazing biography of the blind hymn writer, Fanny Crosby. As the writer of more than 10,000 hymns, all penned after the age of 40, she is credited with authoring more verse than any human in history. The tragic mistreatment by a charlatan masquerading as a doctor blinded Fanny shortly after birth. Nevertheless, she learned to function as a sighted child except for her inability to read. She was an extraordinary child filled with joy and mischief! At her grandmother's knee, she began to demonstrate an exceptional memory, and memorized several complete books of the Bible, including Ruth and Proverbs. She left home at age 15 to begin her formal education. One of the most notable pupils of the New York Institute for Special Education, Fanny was also the first woman to address the US Congress. Fulfilling the roles of wife, mother, friend, teacher, nurse to the sick during the cholera epidemic, humanitarian to the poor and disenfranchised, and friend of presidents Fanny Crosby was an exceptional woman by any standard. And her legacy lives on through the thousands of hymns that are still sung today.
John Newton The words of the Apostle Paul in I Timothy 1:15 no doubt resonated with John Newton. As a person who had grown up in the church under the tutelage of a very godly mother and who later became a faithless rebel, Newton may have felt he was the worst. But if his story teaches us anything, it is to never give up on anyone no matter how far they seem to be from the Kingdom. As Newtons most famous hymn says, Amazing Grace, how sweet the sound that saved a wretch like me.This documentary, featuring interviews with Newton scholars Brian H. Edwards, Jonathan Aitken and Tony Baker, thoroughly explores Newtons life from his turbulent youth to his involvement in the 18th century African slave trade, his dramatic conversion aboard a sinking ship and on through his remarkable ministry as an evangelistic preacher, hymn writer and abolitionist. This fast-paced and insightful documentary serves as an excellent teaching tool and will inspire viewers to take hold of Gods amazing grace.
A Heart Set Free Charles Wesley broke many barriers of 1700s England not only to become "the most gifted and indefatigable poet and hymn writer that England has ever known," but also to give music, heart and soul to the Methodist movement that he and his brother John led. The story of Charles Wesley is often overshadowed by that of his more famous older brother John. These founding fathers of Methodism traveled the same path, yet their lives and talents were often remarkably distinct. From a tenuous birth to blazing field preacher, this film explores the facets of the man known as "The Sweet Bard of Methodism." Discover the poet, husband, and hymn writer who penned "Hark, The Herald Angels Sing," and "O, For a Thousand Tongues to Sing." Follow Charles as a failed missionary to America, then back home, depressed and dejected till he experiences a mighty conversion in May 1738 that kindled within him the passion to reach others with such intensity that, through his verse, we feel it today. Shot on location in England and the United States, this feature-length documentary by T.N. Mohan, producer and director of the award-winning documentary Hanged on a Twisted Cross, brings detailed and well-researched perspective to Charles Wesleys history through many never-before seen archival letters, manuscripts and other documents, besides interviews with leading experts from the UK and US.
